4G Speeds Coming to Virgin Mobile – For Reals This Time!

4G Graphic4G For Reals

Virgin Mobile, according to several online sources, will be getting 4G service along with Boost Mobile as soon as June.

Those of you still grandfathered in to the $25 dollar a month plan will not be able to keep it, however, if you want to take advantage of the service.

Of Course, There is a Catch

Virgin Mobile released that they will be discontinuing this for all new smartphones beginning in May 2012.

In other words, you can switch to an old phone (OV, Triumph, Slider, HTC Wildfire, Venture) and keep your cheap plan, but if you switch to a 4G phone (not released yet), you will have to give it up for the current rates.

The May 2012 cut off makes me think that they are about ready to release new phones – much like they introduced their current plans a day before the Triumph was available last year.

New Phones Expected To Hit Virgin Mobile in 2012

All Rumor At This Point!

Check out the links to the phones that may or may not end up as options this year from Virgin Mobile.

I am particularly interested in the HTC Evo V 4G.

First, this means that maybe Virgin Mobile will offer a 4G plan – which needs to happen if they are going to compete with T-Mobile.

Second, This is an excellent phone, although being a bit older (about a year out and about).

Check out all the rumor links and leave some comments on what else you have heard about what phones may show up at Virgin Mobile in 2012.

LG Optimus V Official Update – Know The Facts

Virgin Mobile released an “upgrade” last month for the LG Optimus V. I originally thought that it would be an upgrade to Android 2.3, but this is not the case.

There have been some spotty reports that a few phones have been upgraded officially to Android 2.3, but this update is not it.

This article is not nearly as comprehensive as I would like it to be, as I have honestly just not had the time to go through the whole process on one of my spare phones as of yet.

However, I assume that upgrading the phone patches  items like the ability for the first generation of LG Optimus V phones to be used as a hotspot among other things.

Since Virgin Mobile is pretty “vague” about the whole thing, I usually assume in these cases that the patches serve the service (Virgin Mobile) more than the consumer.

I’ve collected a few links for you to continue to do some research into the update for the LG Optimus V – If any of you hear anything about updating  to Android 2.3, let me know.
