Save $80 on the Motorola Triumph Android Phone at Virgin Mobile!

Not more than a few months ago,

the Google version of the Android Market was one of the worst catalogs of ANYTHING on the internet. Google has since made enormous improvements. As a result of Google’s neglect of the Android Market website for so long, many alternative Android Market browsers popped up to fill the gap.

Even now, if there is a weakness in the market, an app developer seems to come to the rescue with another market browser. The biggest weakness is usually the application of tags and filters.

This article will point out my four favorite alternative Android Market browsers:

  • Best Apps Market
  • Chomp
  • Appbrain
  • AppAware

Let’s see why they rock!

Best Apps Market is not super exciting, but it has some fun app lists. The user interface needs some work, but it is still interesting to browse.

Chomp excels at natural language searching, meaning that you can just tell it what you are looking for in general terms and it should be able to show you a variety of apps that have to do with the topic, not just the keyword. Try it, and you will see what I mean.

AppBrain is probably the largest and still has the best filters of any alternative market browser out there.

AppAware has a very unique take on the whole app browsing experience. It uses your location to show you what Android users are installing, uninstalling, and updating around you. It has trending tags and trending apps for worldwide or just near you. It is fun to play with. The information is not particularly useful, but it is fun.

So try ‘em out – You got nothing to lose ;)
