If you are one of those people who hate to use personal credit cards and debit cards online – especially auto authorizations, then I want to recommend a new service that I have just started using (and no, they are not paying me to say this).
Its called Serve.
Essentially, it is American Express’ response to Paypal.
It has one extra feature that includes actually receiving a card that links to your account that carries the American Express logo and can be used accordingly, whether it is at Costco or online at Virgin Mobile USA.
It is completely free and does not have any of the sneaky fees of many other “prepaid” credit cards out there.
Any fees they will eventually charge are waived through March of 2013 according to their website.

Serve even has an Android app

Picked up my EVO last weekend (one Best Buy had one in stock). Love it but I do have a few nits to pick. Couldn’t get it to activate, even while sitting next to a tower with full bars on the phone. Reset the phone and it finally activated on it’s own. Picked up a top up card, entered it but Virgin said I had no money on the account. Tried filling out a help request but they never responded. Had to get help over the phone. First time I called they did nothing to help. Called again (I’m assuming the calls are going to India). He had to reset my account. Only problem now is I have no access to Google’s Play Store over data. It works with wifi but on data it tells me I have no connection. Huh? I’m very impressed with this phone but I have been a bit disappointed in the problems I’ve come across and Virgin’s lackluster support. And NO, I don’t want the iPhone. Compared to Android it is BORING!
yah, it might take a few more calls. If you make a big enough fuss, they will transfer you eventually to someone who knows what they are talking about. Virgin MObile customer service is extremely frustrating, but I tend to have similar experiences with many customer services from many companies too. Believe it or not, Virgin Mobile has actually dramatically improved their customer service in the last year. IT is probably about 10 times better, and let me tell you, I have had more than one phone call with them. As to the Google Play store – my first question is whether or not you can surf the rest of the internet too but just not the store? If you cannot surf the net at all, you may try the little airplane mode on and then back off trick to reset the network. If this was happening right after you activated it, it can take a few hours for the data part of your plan to kick in.
