Screw The LG Optimus V Hotspot and Use EasyTether
Save $80 on the Motorola Triumph Android Phone at Virgin Mobile!Ok, as I write this post, I am connected to the internet on my desktop PC through the EasyTether Android app that is on sale at Amazon for their “Geek Week”.
I’ve been a bit slow to try EasyTether because it costs $10 ($5 on Amazon this week), but I wish I would have tried it earlier because it just freak’n works!
With EasyTether, your phone connects via the USB cable, and you do not need to have root access. With the full version, you can even tether your Xbox 360, the Wii, or your PS3.
EasyTether has one major advantage over using the hotspot feature on the LG Optimus V:
- No Battery Drain! Its connected via USB and will charge and charge while you surf and surf!
Of course, there is always a downside.
- Installation of an EasyTether client on the PC/MAC/Linux machine is required before use.

Why wait like I did! If you want to connect your desktop or laptop to the internet through your phone’s connection, EasyTether is “where it’s at”.
Of course, the hotspot is still the best option for connecting other wireless devices like your Ipod, etc. to the internet through your phone.
Still not convinced you should actually buy the app? Try the Lite Version from the Android Market (Amazon only sells the full version).
The EasyTether FAQs explain the difference between the paid and lite versions:
EasyTether Lite will block secure (https://, TCP port 443) sites (such as gmail, facebook, amazon or ebay) and any UDP-based applications (including L2TP VPNs, most instant messagers and Xbox 360 / PS3 / Wii games) after some time. The paid/activated versions have no such limitations.
